Window cleaning is one of the higher-risk trades in the cleaning sector because much of the work is carried out at height. Insurers want to understand how you work, how high you go and what access equipment you use, so the right questions up front help you get cover that will actually pay out.
Working at height and your insurance
Your insurer will ask for the maximum height you work at and the methods you use, such as ladders, water-fed poles, mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs) or rope access. Work above certain heights, or using cradles and rope access, is usually rated differently or needs specialist cover.
Many window cleaners now use water-fed poles to work from the ground, which can reduce the risk profile. If that applies to you, make sure it is reflected in your proposal.
